What was once a strong and respected trilogy fell ill in late 2010 when it
a preview for Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (in 3D!) was released, showing only half of the original cast and a plot entirely disassociated with the first three films.
The final blow to the franchise's ailing health was struck when it was revealed that writers had somehow incorporated zombies into the plot. Any remaining strength was zapped with the application of 3D, so that box offices could charge higher rates.
The franchise is survived by the
Star Wars,
Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings trilogy, one of the few remaining trilogies untainted by unchecked profitability.
