When asked about the first elections in his country in decades, Haji Aktar responded, "I love democracy so much I voted six times!"
That's the joke from the five years ago. In 2009, not much has changed.
Corruption has always been widespread around Afghanistan, but with the election results trickling in from around the country, it seems swindling has reached a new high. Election results aren't just coming from the north and south, but also from 800 non-existent sites in war torn parts of the country.
Then there are the actual polling sites, many of which oddly voted in nice round numbers -- 300, 250, 200 votes -- and all of them voted for Karzai.
Some of the 200,000 votes that have already been tossed out weren't even folded, meaning they wouldn't have fit through the security slot in any of the ballot boxes, implying they were placed there.
Tell me again how we're going to win the war in Afghanistan?
