Why You Should Self-Publish

People talk about self-publishing as an easier step to get that next Great American Novel into the hands of waiting readers. Here are just a few of the gems of the self-publishing world.

Florida Freeze: A Rick Fortune Adventure
Look! In the sky! It's ... It's ... A flying Ford Mustang? When the government's latest secret weapon is stolen, agent Rick Fortune must recover it before it falls into the hands of the terrorist group Sword of Allah. Greed, betrayal and bad food plague Rick and rival agent Monique Mechante as they chase the car across South Florida and the African nation of Tambuta. And there is Rick's little problem. He is still a virgin, but is hoping that Monique will help him to ... well, you know. His plan might work, but only if they survive.

The Crystal Palace
Who would have guessed that the saving of a little boy at a pool would lead to an adventure in Fairyland and the Kingdom of the Leprechauns? A sleepover at Karina’s Grammy’s and Popi’s house in a bedroom filled with crystals, turned into an adventure at a crystal palace and a confrontation with a dangerous sea serpent. Karina, Katie, and Emily Jean entered these worlds through the lead of Grammy’s tooth fairy named Angela. They were needed to find the missing baby fairy prince.

Danny and Da Mob
Danny Molito is a comptroller for a printing company in Chicago's Loop.

In fall 1961, he inadvertently stumbles upon a secret FBI listening post while trying to deliver a payoff to Da Mob. Both the feds and the hoods start looking for him. In disguise, Danny flees downstate to Homecoming and his alumni reunion at Monmouth College. A tipster phones Da Mob with Danny's whereabouts, the FBI overhears the call, and the chase is on.

The campus is roiled with mayhem and murder as thugs invade a seminar on Shakespeare, Chautauqua presentations by Al Capone and Billy Sunday, and the Monmouth-Knox football game. They turn a corn-picker in the Homecoming parade into a murder weapon. The Senior Bench on campus is also a murder scene, with Danny as the intended victim. He and his classmate Kitty, a Chicago lawyer, face a showdown with Da Mob. Danny and Kitty use themselves as bait. Backdrop for the scene is a replica of the Iron Curtain donated by an alumnus who was a former Hungarian Freedom Fighter.

Key Weirder
No man can take too much of a good thing, not even in tropical Key West. When beach-connoisseur Taco Bob decides on a road trip, he leaves the Conch Republic in search of the beautiful woman who broke his heart, and the ultimate trout recipe. But soon after he leaves town, the entire state is in an uproar when a young man on a mission from Texas makes off with the most prized souvenir in Key West. Meanwhile, a sexy but twisted cult leader shows up, determined to find some magical gold idols so she can rule the world, or at least the world of lingerie fashion. But first she has to deal with a renegade bounty hunter, a nearly invisible rival from her past, and the untold thousands of people cramming into Key West for the biggest outdoor concert in the state's history. Taco Bob is going to have plenty of surprises waiting when he returns to the southernmost city in the US. At least it was the southernmost city when he left.
