Senator Jim Webb (D-Va) secured the release of John Yettaw from the oppressive Myanmar regime during a surprise trip to meet military junta leader General Than Shwe. Webb also met with Noble peace prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi.
But how did Yettaw get into Suu Kyi's Burmese compound? He swam. With homemade flippers.
But WHY did Yettaw go to Suu Kyi'd Burmese compound? Because he was writing a book on Mormon-faith and heroism and apparently thought Suu Kyi would make a great interview. He left the decades-long held political dissident a copy of the Book of Mormon.
But then he was arrested swimming back from the compound. Suu Kyi now faces trial and prison time for housing him (he got cramps on the swim over), and Yettaw spent some of his own time in jail before the good Senator secured his release.
