North Korea's Arirang Festival kicked off this week for the sixth year in a row. The large, choreographed dance and festival is one of the largest in the world and will be preformed every day but Sunday through October, meaning that 100,000 North Koreans will have a job for the next month or so.
The Festival is, like all things, themed around the greatness of North Korea's leader Kim Jong Il and his father Kim Il Sung who was 90-95% less of an asshole than the current leader.
As for the music, polka, not rock and roll, may be the music of the human race. It's in Mexico, Germany, Central Asia, and, yes, even in North Korea. No one knows why.
Embedded is footage from last year's event. Reuters also posted a short clip on this year's festivities. If you're interested in seeing the North Korean Arirang Festival in person, check out the oh-so classy North Korean Official Tourism Website.
