Where's Her Combat Patch?

So the New York Times is reporting on the first female to be appointed as the Commandant of the Army's Drill Sergeants.

From her cushy tours as Aide to the Secretary of Defense all the way to her cushy post at NATO headquarters, she's certainly "earned her stripes."

Maybe I'm bitter, but it takes a special kind of Soldier to avoid any deployment whatsoever throughout 29 years of service. As a man with friends (and a wife) who have spent over a year of their lives -- some two or three or four years -- it makes me wonder why the head instructor of our newest soldiers was someone with no combat experience.

Considering how most of those soldiers -- unlike Sergeant Major King -- will end up in a combat zone, her appointment appears like a political maneuver that will do more harm than good to the country's fighting forces.

  1. BULLSHIT! 29 years without ever serving in a warzone?! You have got to be kidding me! That means that this is one of the only times she's ever served in front of soldiers instead of behind desks (or politicians)... and F sexism on this one - I'm a woman and I'm pissed!

  2. that's bogus. i read this about a month ago and i'm still steamed. i told my friends who are in the army and they are crazy over it. then again, as crazy as they can be when they have bigger fish to fry with redeploying to afghanistan shortly. it's just sad.
