Iraq. America won the war at midnight last night, pulling out of all major cities as Iraqis lit fireworks and held parties around its urban hubs. Few Americans are left in the cities to train Iraqi Security Forces. The remainding 135,000 troops are now located on the outskirts of towns. The strategy by Obama in the war on terror largely reflects that of writer James Fallows, who said we should declare victory and then silently get to work shoring up our anti-terror measures.
Iran. The Guardian counsel has declared the recent election valid. It is unclear what the public reaction will be.
Honduras. Eight nations have closed their embassies in Honduras following the removal of democratically elected leader Zelayas. The Honduran Congress says they will not reinstate him despite condemnation from both Barack Obama, Hugo Chavez and many central american countries.
Wall Street. Ponzai scheme extraordinaire Bernie Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison for stealing billions in savings from unsuspecting Americans.
