The Associated Press reported yesterday that inmates in Brazil have designed a way to smuggle mobile phones into their prison cells using homing pigeons.
The scheme was discovered when a guard noticed a pigeon sitting on the prison wall with a cloth bag attached to its feet. "The guards nabbed the bird after luring it down with some food and found components of a small cellphone inside," investigator Celso Soamiglio is quoted as saying.
The next day a second pigeon was discovered dragging a similar bag, this one with a phone charger in it.
