Dolphins v Pirates

Oddly a lot of competition over today's posting. Some wanted the Qantas Air bit about the four baby pythons that escaped mid-flight. Another wanted something on that scottish woman who wow'd the competition on "Britain's Got Talent" (she's got 19 million hits on YouTube so far, that's the equivalent of the entire state of New York tuning in). But none of this could really compete with China's claim that dolphins stopped a pirate attack off the Somali coast.

China's state-controlled radio reported on Tuesday that "thousands of dolphins" blocked a Somali pirate ship from attacking a Chinese merchant vessel.

"The pirates could only lament their littleness before the vast number of dolphins," state radio reported.

Dolphins or destroyers, China has still lost seven ships to hijacking despite its best efforts. This may be due in part to its photographic team in the region. Looking at the website's photos of the dolphin-interference, the photographer had to be seated with the pirates to get the shots he took. The pirate ships also look suspiciously like fishing boats.

Other notable news on "Xinhua", the Chinese news website?

Before you go judging Chinese media though, it's important to compare. Notable news on CNN.com?

Keep in mind this is the same day the White House declassified the legal opinion that legalized waterboarding and a slew of other 'enhanced' interrogation techniques.
